Citizenship Programme initiative: Digital Literacy for Senior Citizens
The students of Class XI recently organised a Citizenship Programme Initiative on Cyber Awareness and Digital Literacy for their grandparents on 12 March 2026. The programme sought to equip senior citizens with essential digital competencies while fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. It was designed to simplify the use of technology and enable elderly participants to engage with the digital world with increased confidence and awareness.
The event commenced with a formal welcome by the student nominees, who underscored the growing significance of technology in everyday life and the need for cyber safety. Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, addressed the gathering and encouraged participants to adopt digital tools while remaining vigilant about potential online risks.
An interactive session formed the core of the programme, during which students guided their grandparents through the use of smartphones, social media platforms, and fundamental online practices. Participants were also sensitised to cyber threats, including online scams, digital banking fraud, and secure online transactions. An engaging activity titled “Real or AI” further enhanced their ability to distinguish between authentic and artificially generated content.
The programme also featured a Cyber Awareness Quiz inspired by Kaun Banega Crorepati, which rendered the learning process both engaging and memorable.
Overall, the initiative effectively combined awareness, creativity, and interaction, making technology more accessible and less intimidating for senior citizens. It strengthened intergenerational learning and reinforced the importance of digital responsibility and cyber safety, leaving participants better informed and more confident in navigating the digital landscape.
