Class 6-11 engage with the folk traditions of Tamil Nadu

The students of The Indian School participated with  enthusiasm in Saanjhi, the annual folk festival hosted by Sardar Patel Vidyalaya on Friday, 21 November 2025. Rooted in the rich tapestry of Indian folklore, the festival draws inspiration from traditional art forms expressed through stories, paintings, myths and songs.

Each participating school was allotted a specific state to represent, with The Indian School showcasing the cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The event was inaugurated by well known folk artist Ms Malini Awasthi, who delivered an insightful address on the significance of safeguarding India’s folkloric traditions.

Across the three categories—Storytelling (Classes IV–V), the Folk Art Workshop (classes VI–XI) and the Folk Music Exposition (classes VI–XI)—students engaged deeply with Tamil Nadu’s artistic and cultural idioms. The Storytelling segment featured the witty Tamil folk tale Kurvi Mitai and Allu, brought to life by young participants through expressive narration, confident stagecraft and vibrant cultural references.

Concurrently, the Folk Art Workshop enabled students from classes VI to XI to explore regional motifs and techniques under expert guidance, offering a hands'-on creative experience that fostered both artistic skill and cultural understanding.

The Folk Music Exposition showcased a melodious and devotional rendition of Velva Velva Vel Muruga Va Va, performed by our School’s music delegation with harmony, discipline and emotional depth. Their presentation captured the spiritual essence of Tamil Nadu’s musical heritage and resonated strongly with the audience.

The Saanjhi Folk Festival 2025 thus served as a meaningful platform for learning, collaboration and cultural immersion, allowing students to return with enriched perspectives and a renewed appreciation for the stories, art forms and traditions that continue to shape India’s shared heritage.
