Honours at Zonal Chess Tournament hosted at our School
The Indian School successfully hosted the Zonal Chess Tournament from 26 to 30 July 2025, drawing gifted young players from over 40 schools across Zone 23. The event was held in the School Foundation Hall in the presence of Zone Supervisor, Ms Sriparna Sinha.
The tournament commenced with Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, exhorting the participants to play with integrity, focus, and true sporting spirit. Her inspiring address set a positive tone for the games ahead, and players were inspired to give their best on the board.
Over the next four days, matches were held across various age categories, showcasing the very essence of chess — a game of strategy, focus and mental resilience. Each round was marked by tactical play, intense concentration and admirable sportsmanship. Most competitive rounds were fiercely contested, underscoring the high standard of preparation and skill on display.
A proud moment for the School was the commendable performance of its teams in various categories:
The Junior Boys’ team comprising Ayaan Arora (IX E), Arkaj Menon (VIII C), Vihaan Singh Narang (XI C), and Mayank Panwar (X A) secured the Second position.
The Senior Girls’ team consisting of Disha Verma (XI B), Shiksha Dwivedi (XI E), Ashwini Prakash (XI E) and Nalini Thakur (XI D) attained the Fourth Position.
The Sub-Junior Boys’ team also secured the Fourth Position, with Anant Goel (VI E), Amish Chaturvedi (VII C), Gitansh Taneja (IX E) and Suryansh Singh Bist (VIII C), showcasing developing strength and impressive strategic thinking.
Adding to the prestige of the event was the involvement of The Indian School’s alumni — Auro Sankalp, Akshit Bhatia, and Harshil Jain — who served as arbiters. Their contribution ensured the tournament was conducted fairly and professionally, and their return to School in this capacity was a moment of pride and continuity.
A dedicated team of student volunteers played a vital role in managing logistics, assisting with arrangements and ensuring the smooth flow of the event. Their commitment and enthusiasm were instrumental in the tournament’s overall success.
More than just a competitive event, the tournament served as a platform for young minds to sharpen their cognitive skills, test strategic abilities, and embrace values such as patience, discipline, and perseverance. It reinforced the intellectual and character-building impact of chess in a student’s holistic development.
