Science Week Talk for classes 10 and 11: Computational Gastronomy Blending Food with Artificial Intelligence

On 18 August 2026, our School organised an insightful talk on ‘Computational Gastronomy: Blending Food with Artificial Intelligence’ for the students of Classes X and XI. The session was conducted by Prof Ganesh Bagler, Professor at the Infosys Centre for Artificial Intelligence, IIIT-Delhi, and a pioneer in the field of Computational Gastronomy. The talk introduced students to the emerging interdisciplinary domain that integrates food science, data science and Artificial Intelligence.

Prof Bagler explored the concept of making food computable, demonstrating how computational methods can be employed to analyse ingredients, recipes, flavours and culinary patterns. He explained how algorithms can identify relationships between ingredients and existing recipes, thereby enabling AI systems to generate novel combinations and innovative recipes. The discussion also highlighted the potential of such approaches to complement culinary expertise by supporting professional chefs in experimenting with new flavour profiles and gastronomic possibilities.

The session provided students with a stimulating perspective on the convergence of Artificial Intelligence, data science, food, creativity and innovation. Students participated actively, engaging with the speaker through insightful questions on AI-generated recipes, algorithms, flavour combinations and the future of food innovation. The interaction enriched their understanding of interdisciplinary research and encouraged them to consider the wider applications of emerging technologies beyond conventional domains.
