The Pre primary celebrated Janamashtami with a vibrant and engaging Storytelling session that beautifully conveyed the enduring values of Lord Krishna, namely ove, kindness, fairness and friendship. The session incorporated music, instruments, role play, and interactive storytelling.
The storytellers introduced Lord Krishna through the cheerful rhyme, "Krishna is so beautiful, so wonderful and adorable. Krishna is so colourful, Krishna has a chakra..." The children happily joined in, making the beginning of the session both musical and memorable.
A adorable Bal Krishna was then introduced, delighting the children as they got to meet Him. The teachers shared how Krishna loved playing the flute and they sang together, the melodious rhyme, "Krishna had a bamboo flute, bamboo flute... Its music is so sweet... And everywhere Krishna goes, Krishna goes, He plays his bamboo flute." The soothing tunes of the traditional instruments kept the children captivated.
The session continued with Krishna's famous love for butter. The children excitedly shared that they also loved butter, with some happily mentioning that they enjoyed eating it with aloo paratha! Everyone enthusiastically sang along to "Gopi, Gopi, have you any butter? Yes Krishna, three pots of butter—One for Balram, one for Sudama, and one for Natkhat Krishna!"
The storytellers then described Krishna's deep love for cows and other animals, explaining how he lovingly cared for them as a young cowherd. The children joyfully sang "Chhoti Chhoti Gaiyan, Chhote Chhote Gwal," while the rhythmic beats of the dholak and the manjira added excitement to the performance, encouraging every child to clap, sing, and participate wholeheartedly.
The children also discovered that Krishna was not only playful but also a true and loyal friend. Through the heartwarming story of Krishna and Sudama, they learned how Krishna warmly welcomed his childhood friend Sudama, lovingly accepted his humble gift of poha and shared with him, his prosperity. The story conveyed the values of friendship, humility and gratitude. The story conveyed that the value of a gift lies in the affection and thought that comes with it, and that a gift need not be big or expensive to be special. This connected meaningfully with the School’s *Sanskara Syllabus*, which focuses on cultivating the importance of respecting others.
Adding to the festive spirit, the little learners enthusiastically tapped to the energetic song "Wo Kisna Hai," filling the hall with laughter, excitement, and joyful dance moves.
The celebration concluded with a creative matki making Activity, where the children transformed recycled plastic bottles into colourful decorated matkis. This eco-friendly craft activity encouraged creativity while beautifully connecting the festive theme with the importance of recycling.
